 Memasuki dunia teknologi yang berkembang sangat pesat, merupakan suatu peluang yang sangat baik bagi para ilmuwan dan juga praktisi dalam dunia pendidikan, seni, budaya dan teknologi di Indonesia. Menyingkapi hal ini maka, topik utama pada Digital Informationa & System Conference kedelapan ini, menekankan pada kesempatan yang terbuka lebar untuk mengembangkan bidang keilmuan yang dimiliki.

Sebagai sebuah sarana diseminasi pengetahuan dan informasi tentang berbagai pengembangan di bidang teknologi, seni budaya dan sistem pembelajaran, DISC merupakan seminar tahunan yang merupakan suatu upaya untuk memajukan pendidikan di Indonesia dan pengembangan yang bersinergi dengan industri dan masyarakat. Untuk itu seminar nasional DISC yang telah menginjak tahun kedelapan ini, diharapkan dapat menjadi fasilitas bagi para peneliti dan pendidik untuk saling bertukar informasi, berdiskusi dan mendidik. Berbagai pihak yang terlibat dalam upaya ini adalah mulai dari akademisi hingga praktisi, dari developer hingga end-user, dan mulai dari hal yang bersifat teori dan teknis hingga yang bersifat manajerial, sosial dan praktis.

BACKGROUND
Following the success of four previous conferences, ICSIIT will be held again in Bali, Indonesia, from 26th to 29th of September 2017. Traditionally, ICSIIT has been the key forum for researchers, scientists, and practitioners to meet up and share experiences on the latest research work in the fields of software computing, computational intelligence, and information and communications technology. The conference will be hosted by the Department of Informatics, Petra Christian University.
Since the beginning of the digital age (around 2002), data has multiplied over 200 times. Some estimated that 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every day. The challenges of big data’s deluge demand a different paradigm in the way data is captured, curated, and analyzed. The data-intensive science has been proposed to deal with the 4 Vs (volume, velocity, variety, and veracity) of big data. The proliferation of IoT will further escalate the amount of data generated.
The topic of the 5th ICSIIT is Building Intelligence Through IoT and Big Data.
